This week, Language Teaching and Technology class 401-402 will have midterm test. The students have to answer some question and post it on their own blog. The question that is posted is understandable, as follows:
1.      Why do language teachers need to apply products of technology (ICT) in their classrooms?
Answer:

Nowadays, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is fundamental in everyone’s life in our modern technological society. Teacher must successfully integrate ICT into both the English curriculum and English pedagogical practice. The language teachers must apply ICT in their learning process.
ICT is a valuable tool to enhance teaching and learning. For teachers ICT is a professional resource, a mode of classroom delivery, and a source of valid and valuable text types. For students, ICT provides opportunities to communicate more effectively and to develop literacy skills including skills in critical literacy. It is a valuable tool for researching, composing and responding, and viewing and representing in English. However, if all students are to have the opportunity to develop ICT skills and achieve English syllabus outcomes, issues of equity and access to technology must be addressed. 2.      Mention some products of technology that support English language teaching.
Answer:

Some products of technology that support English language teaching are
                    1. Laptop
          It is a small computer that can work with a battery and be easily carried.
               2. Speakers
        It is the part of computer that the sounds comes out of.
                3.Electronic dictionary
       It is a portable electronic dictionary which can be used everywhere and anywhere.


                4.PDA
     It is the abbreviation for ‘personal digital assistant’. It is a very small computer that is used for  storing personal information and creating documents, and that may include other functions.

                 5.IPod
        It is a small piece of equipment that can store information taken from the Internet and that you carry with you.

 
                     6.Smartphone
         It is a mobile phone or cell phone that also has some of the functions of a computer



g.              7.Tablets PC
       It is a small computer that is easy to carry, with a large touch screen and sometimes without a physical keyboard.



3.      Mention some computer hardware used for teaching and learning activities and explain one by one.
Answer:

           A. Computer
           A computer generally means a programmable machine. The two principal characteristics of a computer are: it responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner and it can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a program).              B. LCD Projector
           An LCD projector is a type of video projector for displaying video, images or computer data  on a screen or other flat surface. It is a modern equivalent of the slide projector or overhead projector. To display images, LCD (liquid-crystal display) projectors typically send light from a metal-halide lamp through a prism or series of dichroic filters that separates light to three polysilicon panels – one each for the red, green and blue components of the video signal.

c             C. Speaker
             It is an electroacoustic transducer that produces sound in response to an electrical audio signal input. In other words, speakers convert electrical signals into audible signals.


                       D.Headset
           A headset combines a headphone with a microphone. Headsets are made with either a single- earpiece (mono) or a double-earpiece (mono to both ears or stereo).


             E. Web-camera
            It is a camera which records moving pictures and sound and allows these to be broadcast on  the internet as they happen


4.      What computer software do you need for teaching English in the classroom?
Answer:
The rise of the Web Technology brings in new and ‘exciting’ technologies for use by the language learning process. Here, software is used in language learning. Sofware is all of the programs in computer system.  It only can be seen but we cannot touch it directly. In language learning process, there are some software that can be used to help students understand and acquire the material. There are some examples of software
                      A.Prezi
          Prezi is a presentation sofware and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. We should download it from https://prezi.com/ to use this software. We will get trial version for first thirty days. We must pay it for the next days
            B.Ulead Video studio
         It is a sofware for editing movie and audio. It is a software that is produced by Corel. We must download it from http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/




            C. Audacity
           It is a an easy-to use audio editor and recorder. We can download it from

       D.Cool Edit Pro
           It is a sofware for editing music

             E. GoAnimate
       GoAnimate (sometimes also called Go!Animate) is an American cloud-based platform for creating and distributing animated videos. This software allow everyone to make videos quickly and easily, without having to draw or download anything (Click, Drag, Action!). It allows users to develop both narrative videos, in which characters speak with lip-sync and move around, and video presentations, in which a voiceover narrator speaks over images and props, which may also move around.



5.      What do you know about CALL and MALL
  • CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) is a study of application of the computer in language teaching and learning process. According to Chapelle (2001: 3) Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) refers to the area technology and second language teaching and learning despite the fact that revisions for the term are suggested regularly. There are three phases of CALL, Behavioristic CALL , Communicative CALL , and Integrative call.(http://www.rong-chang.com/call.htm)
  • MALL (Mobile Assisted Language Learning) is a study of application of mobile technology in language teaching and learning process. Mobile assisted language learning (MALL) is a subarea of the growing field of mobile learning (mLearning) research which increasingly attracts the attention of scholars.
